We are seeking to bring on *3* new graduate students in the fall - application deadline for the Masters in Marine Science & Oceanography Program is Jan. 15th, 2021! Please contact me before submitting if interested in joining our lab!
CURRENT GRADUATE STUDENTS
Matt Quinan, M.S. Marine Science & Oceanography in progress at FAU Harbor Branch
Thesis: Iron-mediated degradation of hydrocarbons in marine sediments
Bio: Matt joined the lab in Fall, 2019, after graduating from Colgate and interning at Mote Marine Lab. While we value him for his brains, his golfing skills are what really count in this dog-eat-dog world we live in!
CURRENT UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
Hung Quach Nguyen, Major of Earth's Systems and Data & Statistics at Minerva School of the Keck Graduate Institute
Project: Automated Lake Okeechobee Harmful Algal Bloom Prediction
Bio: Hung joined our lab in summer of 2019 as an FAU Intern but we liked him so much we made him stick around! He is a chemistry whiz, having won the National Chemistry Olympiad in Vietnam when just in high school! Hung keeps us entertained at the lab with his obsessive squirrel photography - just don't mention that them there are good eatin' in the south!

Dr. Veronica Ruiz-Xomchuk, Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography (from Texas A&M)
BIO: Veronica joined our lab specifically to work on the Lake Okeechobee HALO Project. She is the big time data manager, making sure all of the data ends up in the right place, is shared with everyone, and is really put together to tell a nice story about what is causing the algae blooms there. On top of running some serious hypoxia models during her Ph.D., she is a data science whiz and is super well-versed in current IT standards.

Lynn Wilking, M.S., Chemical Lab Coordinator
BIO: Lynn joined the lab in February 2020. She has a master’s degree in Coastal Sciences from the University of Southern Mississippi, and the majority of her professional experience has been studying water quality issues in various research labs. When she’s not at work Lynn likes to apply her chemistry skills at home to cook and bake delicious meals. If you’re nice to her she might make you birthday treats!

BIO: Jordon's primary research focus has been the biogeochemical cycling of carbon, nutrients, oxygen, and sulfur in redox environments, with a particular emphasis on iron and sediments. Prior to joining FAU Harbor Branch, Jordon received his Ph.D. from Georgia Tech in 2014 and was a postdoc and then the Program Manager of the Ocean Technology Research Program at Mote Marine Lab in Sarasota, FL. In his free time he enjoys surfing but most of all, hanging out with his cat, Frenchie.
